A major part of this effort is the Tax for SDGs Initiative, which underscores how efficient tax systems can support sustainable development by funding essential projects.<\/p>\n<p>In line with these goals, UNDP has launched an Undergraduate Essay Competition, inviting students to voice their opinions and suggest solutions on how tax policies can advance the SDGs in Nigeria. By participating, students will deepen their understanding of public finance and its far-reaching impact on social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Theme\"><\/span><strong>Theme<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Participants should choose one of the following themes to write about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Innovative Tax Policies and Strategies<\/strong>: How can these drive sustainable development and help close the SDGs financing gap in Nigeria? Students are invited to explore the potential of new tax policies that can drive growth while funding essential projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inclusive and Sustainable Tax Systems<\/strong>: How do tax systems influence environmental sustainability, the digital economy, and trade? Participants should consider how inclusive tax structures can support a greener and more digital-forward Nigeria.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengthening Tax Systems to Combat Illicit Financial Flows<\/strong>: What measures can be taken to reinforce Nigeria\u2019s tax systems to reduce illegal financial activities? This theme challenges students to explore ways to close financial loopholes that undermine development efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Eligibility\"><\/span><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The competition is open to all Nigerian undergraduates currently enrolled in any recognized university or college in the country, regardless of their field of study. Participants must submit proof of national identification and their university student ID.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Submission_Guidelines\"><\/span><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Essay Length<\/strong>: Your submission should fall between 1,500 and 2,000 words.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Language<\/strong>: All submissions must be in English.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Format<\/strong>: Your essay needs to be typed, double-spaced, and submitted as a PDF file.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Originality<\/strong>: Submissions must be entirely original and unpublished; plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
