Wiki Loves Earth is a global photography contest aimed at promoting natural heritage sites through Wikimedia platforms, including Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.
This year marks the fifth participation of Nigeria in the event, which will run from June 1 to July 31, 2024. In previous editions, Nigerian participants uploaded over 1,000 high-quality images.
The competition is open to everyone, whether you want to join as a photographer or an organizational volunteer.
Wiki Loves Earth Prizes
- 1st Prize: NGN 150,000
- 2nd Prize: NGN 100,000
- 3rd Prize: NGN 50,000
Other Categories
- Best 2 images from each participating fan club and hub will be awarded.
- The highest number of contributions from each participated fan club and hub will receive prizes.
- Top 10 contributors (by number of photographs) will get a WLE T-shirt.
Eligibility Requirements
- Original Work: All entries must be your own work without any visible watermarks or manipulations of the original image.
- Upload Period: Images must be submitted from June 1 through July 31, 2024.
- Licensing: All photos must be licensed under CC BY-SA.
- Contact Information: Participants need an active email address for organizers to reach out if necessary.
- Captions and Descriptions: Required for each image.
- Categorization: Adding categories to your pictures is essential for easy searching.
- No Duplicates: Avoid uploading duplicate images.
Judging Criteria
The jury will evaluate entries for both local and international contests based on:
- Technical Quality: Factors like clarity, lighting, and perspective, among others.
- Originality: Unique and innovative shots.
- Usefulness: Relevance and applicability of the image for Wikipedia.
